"another great MI title!", from a purely academic perspective, a guitarist would have a hard time doing better than this bk. like building a wall brick by brick, every chapter adds to the last, re-enforcing the previous lessons as they are applied to new ones. this allows one to build a strong foundation from which to expand understanding of the mechanics of guitar theory and how to apply that info in a functional way.
the amazon entry is a "look inside" type, so I won't go into the specifics. it's pretty self-explanatory. for me, approaching this info as a lifetime player looking to fill in gaps in fundamentals, a workbook like this was exactly what I needed. if you're serious about your obsession, you will benefit from this book

"Excellent systematic method for learning the fretboard ", I have been fascinated by the guitar for over 20 years. As such, I have built up a large library of lessons in various forms. This workbook has pulled many concepts that I have found in disparate sources and coalesced them into one place. My only slight criticism is that the basic music theory involved with learning the fretboard is not in as much depth as I would like. Consequently, I understand some of the confusion noted in other reviews. I encourage beginners to stick with it because being able to break free of the tyranny of the first position will inspire you to further heights no matter what musical style you play. My recommendation for more in-depth music theory for guitar would be the Guitar Grimoire series by Adam Kadmon. Example: The Guitar Grimoire- A Notated Intervallic Study Of Scales

"The fretboard is your friend", I have an entire bookcase full of music theory books and how to play the guitar. Not one of them has approached the topic like this book does. I would not recommend this book for beginners who don't have a teacher or mentor. Sort of like trying to visualize driving a car by looking at the mechanical pieces. You need a foundation for it to really start turning the gears (IMHO). But for people like me who have played for 25 years but are tired of memorizing the different scales and chords and feeling "boxed in", now I can 'go anywhere I want', this book was absolutely FREEING for me.

I now can choose any note, make it my root (regardless of the key), know where all the other roots are and create a scale (Major, Minor, Pent etc) on the fly and even alter or bounce between them! I no longer care (or even know) what key I am in, everything is a half or whole step or several combined for interval playing, but everything sounds good and related and I can change direction on any note. This has been the 'lightbulb' for me.

The Fretboard IS laid out with a logic and a purpose that I never fully understood until reading this book. Like the author pointed out, each string is like a keyboard with all the notes laid out. We need to understand how one string relates to the next. I look at the neck very differently and can now see the notes that are related to the one I am playing and make a choice depending on feel and emotion I want to impart, I am not 'limited' to the scale, and everything makes sense! Highly recommended.

"Guitar Fretboard Workbook Works", This is an excellent overview of the guitar fretboard. Very helpful and easy to follow. I learned a lot in a short amount of time.

"Just what I was looking for.", The best way to learn something is through doing. This book does exactly that and is an amazing resource. If you want to really learn the guitar fretboard, this book is definitely for you.

"The best of the 3 fretboard learning books I reviewed", I bought Sololow's Fretboard Roadmaps, the Fretboard Logic SE book, and this workbook at about the same time. Of the three, this one was the most useful and best written. It would be even better if they released a software version so you could "drill" practice on the patterns. But for $15 I think this is a great resource and should be one of the first 5 things new guitarists put in their "library".

"Prepare to spend some time with this book", There's no substitute for knowing what you're doing when you are learning an instrument. This book will take you a long way but you must be willing to put in some time with it. Personally, I find it almost addictive with it's worksheets. My son calls them puzzles.

Figure on taking a year to work through the material. Getting in a hurry will cause confusion and you'll just have to back up and start again. I find that for me I absolutely have to finish each worksheet several times before it really takes root. My routine is to spend maybe fifteen minutes or so a day in the Guitar Fretboard Workbook and then go on to my regular practice.

This is highly recommended. If I had found it years ago I wouldn't be struggling with my playing now.



"refret job done at home!", This very helpful book provided me confidence to tackle a partial refret on my 12 yr old washburn D34S (wideneck: 12 fret). It's a scary moment when you start pulling frets out of the board, believe me! I will say that no book is completely thorough in describing such work, but this is one of the better resources I have found.

"Guitar Fretboard Workbook", I bought this book to help my husband learn how to better play his guitar. This book has truly helped him learn and better understand other tools he has. He is very happy and excited. I can now enjoy hearing him rehearse:-)
