"If you only buy one bass book, this is it!", I started out with another book, All About Bass. Big mistake. Then I found this book, Ed Friedland's bass method on Amazon and am very happy with it. I especially like that it progresses slowly, with each string, and includes short CD songs right from the beginning lesson. This nailed it as far as getting me to want to practice on a regular basis. The reward of sounding good early sure helps. I took my time through Book One because I wanted to stress the basics. I'm still working through Books Two & Three, and playing along with the accompanying series Easy/More Easy Bass Lines, etc. A nice collection from Hal Leonard for sure.

"The Best For Bass Out There", This course is the best for bass guitar that I could find. One would still need assistance from a bass player but this will definitely get you started.

"Good if you already have the basics", This is a very good book if you already have the basics of reading music. Gives more emphasis to playing than practicing hand/fingering technics. Not realy for a first time player.

"Outstanding Value", This book includes 143 jam-packed pages and two CD's into a great package for the self-taught and beginning-to-intermediate players taking lessons. The book takes a well-rounded approach to bass playing, giving attention to essential scales, triads, ergonomic issues, and several styles. The book also touches on specialized techniques such as hammer ons and pop-and-snap.

Using this method at a slow and studied pace will equip the muscially-inclined bass player to hold their own in most pop-music settings. If you want to be the next Jaco Pastorius, however, the journey only begins here.

"Bass-ically speaking", This book is the best I have seen for someone wanting to learn the Bass. With this book anyone can teach themselves to play and read music. The knowledge contained within the pages AND the CD's you'll be playing in no time at all, GREAT BOOK.

"hard for me to say", Let's just put it this way: I bought this a couple of months ago, but I don't think I've used it enough to be able to say too much about it.

I'm a beginner to the bass, but I'm not a beginner to music. I'd probably use this book more if I practiced more, but it doesn't really fit my current style of self-instruction.

"pretty good", this is a good book to learn how to read music and learn the basics. It takes more concentration, practice and effort to us but it is a great book

"Great, Simple Instruction - Highly Recommend!", This has been such a fun way to learn bass. The lessons are easy to follow and the supplemental CDs are great to play along with and reinforce what you've learned. I have gone from knowing nothing about playing bass to playing all four strings in less than four weeks!


"Great place to start", I use this book in conjunction with theory instruction from my teacher and it is working out well. The best part of the book is that it does not have TAB so you are forced to learn how to read music. The book can get boring, so you must stay disiplined and perhaps you could learn some cool bass riffs online to keep your interest.

"THE Bass Method", The best bass method I ever laid my hands on so far.
Great audio quality and flawless notation.
Too bad it's just in standard notation (no tabs).
But worth every buck you pay for it. A must have in my opinion
