"Seemed good", Seemed like a great book. I bought it around the same time as a motorcycle. Unfortunately, I was moving along nicely in the book and getting the hang of things when later that month I lost control of my motorcycle, drove into a drainage ditch, flew over a driveway, and hit a retaining wall. Then with a broken arm, amongst some memory loss, I didn't pick it back up.

"GOOD SELF-TEACHING AID", I took piano lessions years ago {now 64} i wished to start back so i bought a keyboard. "Still great", I used these in piano class, my dad used these 50 years ago, my grandmother is using them to teach herself now. Great for everyone and always a classic.

"Strongly Recommended", This is a wonderful book for adult students. I have taken piano lessons on and off for nearly 40 years. Because every teacher seems to use different material, I've been exposed to most of the different teaching series. Alfred's series has songs that are familiar, interesting, and varied, and the next song was always at just the right level. I felt a terrific sense of accomplishment when I finished the book.

"not recommended", This book tries to teach piano the way rock and folk guitar is often learned: it tells you to form chords by putting your hands in certain positions, giving short shrift to the principles of chord construction and voicing and virtually ignoring the principles of voice-leading. The inevitable result is a confused and unmusical pianist. For adults and older children I use John Thompson's MODERN COURSE FOR PIANO. I often supplement this with John Clough's SCALES, INTERVALS, KEYS, TRIADS, AND METER. I advise those of my students interested in jazz and rock music to use Jeff Burns's PENTATONIC SCALES FOR THE JAZZ-ROCK KEYBOARDIST.

"great intermediate song selection", one of the best instructional books I have used. definitely geared towards the adult student. Good combination of music theory and well-known song selection.
