What our customer's say!
"The greatest of the greats! ", Frankly, the album has obviously secured itself the "classic" title. Honestly, how could it not? While many feel it to be over-rated and pretentious, the impact it had on pop-culture, and the impact it continues to have, is simply massive. It is a fair assumption that there will never be another band like the Beatles, and by extension another album like Sgt. Pepper. While this is rather sad, it's also for the best. Anyone who loves the album shouldn't have a problem with this fact, as they can simply put on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band; thirty-nine minutes of music that changed the world.
"Beautiful album...", ... but I only gave it 4 stars because Paul died before this album was finished. Had Paul (not Faul) been involved in the making of this classic album, it would've been even crazier.
Still... beautiful album by the 3 remaining Beatles. Highly recommended.
"41 yrs latter", "Before Sgt. Pepper, no one seriously thought of rock music as actual art. That all changed in 1967, though, when John, Paul, George and Ringo (with "A Little Help" from their friend, producer George Martin) created an undeniable work of art..."
Really?? Before this album NO ONE considered rock music art. I didn't know. Guess they were just all wrong then weren't they?! Huh. And to this day it is "undeniable" that Sgt. Pepper is a work of art. Maybe...but *undeniable* is such a strong word. In anycase I find this album came at exactly the perfect time to maximize it's success.
"I declare that the Beatles are mutants. Prototypes of evolutionary agents sent by God, endowed with a mysterious power to create a new human species, a young race of laughing freemen." ---Timothy Leary
Yeeeaahhhh. Well, people were getting into somethings and this album seemed to really connect. Does it still matter so much? Does it stand the hard test of time? The answer is NO to that question. Obviously it's place in history is secured as one of the most important and influential albums in late 20th century pop music. Sgt. Pepper is undoubtedly an interesting album with the concept of creating alter-egos and an imaginary band for The Beatles as well as the studio innovations that went into the songs. Honestly though, the one song that truly stands out and I find interesting circa 2008 is "A Day in the Life". Why that is I can't put my finger on it, but that's how I feel.
"A very influential album", Influential and historical, no doubt about it. However, I did not, nor do I now, feel this was the Beatle's best work. It is perhaps the most unique album because of the time and the circumstances in which it was recorded. Very "arty" and polished. Influenced countless bands in the seventies who perhaps even outdid the Beatles at their own game. It is a decent album though, with some strong moments. Lucy, Kite, and A Day are strong. The rest of the songs are pleasant enough and you might find yourself humming some of them. This is not a trivial album by any means even though there are better albums by the Beatles themselves and other artists. I do agree with some of the trashers out there that the Beatles were outdone by others, but I wouldn't go as far as calling them the Nsync of the sixties. Some of our reviewers need a history lesson before they go spouting off. The Beatles were NOT manufactured. They were from working-class families, worked and toured for years in Germany and Great Britain before realising fame, and were a tight-knit dance band before they DEVELOPED *THEIR* composing ablilities. Nuff-said.
"Hurry Up Crapitol Records", It's taking forever for Capital Records to release the Mono version of this recording. The Mono sounds better and is quite different,a couple songs are even played in a different key than the stereo versions. Pick up the Millenium Remasters Collection import for true joy

"A masterpiece! A turning point in pop culture!", People who are too young don't realize what a turning point in pop music history this album was. Released in June 1967, it changed the way musicians and people as a whole looked at albums. Before this release, with the exception of Revolver and Rubber Soul, most albums consisted of two or three hit songs and lots of filler. The Beatles raised the level of quality on albums to an art form. But the change was more pervasive. For better of for worse, it opened the gates for a new culture of drug-induced music. Let's face it, this album was a real experience under LSD, mescaline and even pot. The realm of time and space in a song form was creatively changed and also the concept of album art, production values and overall attitude. It was a landmark album, and although to many younger listeners it may seem dated, pretentious or weird, it was a historical cultural event that changed the course of pop music forever. It was said that it was influenced by Brian Wilson's Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys, another turning point in pop music. But Sgt. Pepper blew the lid off and made the "single", a thing of the past. Essential! An icon in music!
"Always a good listen", I purchased this album when it first came out, but somehow it wandered, I think my younger sister has it and never returned it. I have recently been buying some of the earlier Beatles albums, and wanted to add this, so I could listen to it on headphones. Apparently George Martin was still only using 4 track recorders at this point, so what he achieved was pretty amazing. The album still sounds as good as ever. I have my favourite tracks but it's all good stuff. Listening to all the earlier Beatles albums reminds me how far they were ahead of the other bands at the time, especially with the quality of their original songs. I think only Brian Wilson was doing stuff as good or better than the Beatles/George Martin combination.
"Beatles Phase 2", Phase 1 would be the "Mop-Top" "I Wanna Hold your Hand" part of their reign. Phase 2 really begins with RUBBER SOUL, continues thru REVOLVER and hits a zenith with this album. "Within You, Without You" has never been a favorite of mine (not crazy about sitars) but this album was supposedly a theme album but the actual interconnection only really last through the first three songs (the title song, "With A Little Help from my Friends" & "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"). Not that I'm complaining this is a solid effort by a band that had, at this point, really honed their skills to a new level. The same cannot really be said about the albums that follow (THE WHITE ALBUM has moments, LET IT BE was never able to reach the level of the vision that launched it and MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR is more a complilation of things not included on SGT PEPPER than anything else.) except for ABBY ROAD.
"can't you see he's really reeally dead?", Oh sorry fools you are!! can't you see he's really really dead? too many clues, he's dead??
Joe Franks
"buying this CD is good for "fixing a hole"in your collection!", this is the very first beatles album i bought. i like most every song on it and i didnt live through the 60s. a must have for rock'n'rollers everywhere!
