What our customer's say!

"Pricey, but worth it. ", This slide bar has a great feel & nice weight. Very easy to play with. It's a little extra $, but worth it. I use it with my arch-top & am planning on getting a lap steel soon. It's much easier to play with than a finger slide. It's more accurate and heavier, so it has better sustain & doesn't bounce around.

"Very Comfortable AND Great Tone", This is a great all around bar. I will probably never use my Stevens type bar again!.

The bottom is more rounded than a Stevens bar. For me this makes the GS glide over the strings much easier and it makes it easier to get a nice gentle vibrato by rocking the top of the bar back and forth. The edges make for great clean pull off's.

I think the tone is better on the lower strings than the Stevens bar. This is probably because the profile of the GS is more rounded and there is less contact area.

The wooden top of the bar is larger and more contoured than the Stevens. This makes it very easy to grip. This can be especially important if you have any hand problems that make it difficult to grip or hold on to a steel bar with a smaller top part. The wood feels better than cold steel in your hand too!

I would strongly recommend giving this bar a try. Especially if you aren't too fond of the grip on a Stevens type bar or if you have hand problems.

"Great bar, easy to use!", This is a great bar. I almost didn't get it based on the other review list here; however, Shubb is a very good company that I have done business with for some time. I didn't think they would put out an inferior product in an area that they have had good success in. I believe that I was correct. I have the Van Meter bar, which is good and Shubb 2, which is ok but feels heavy and clumsy to me. This bar has the same volume, I can't hear a difference and I have tried them side by side. It is quicker and much easier to execute pull offs and slants. I recognize there differences in the type of instruments being played, hand size and technical ability, with that in mind I would still highly recommend checking this steel out. Besides, how many resophonic guitarist do you know that have only one steel? Try it, I think that you will like it.

"Nice design, but a little light", This was my third steel, all made by Shubb. The first was an SP1. It was well made, but it wasn't tall enough for my hands to get a good grip. Next I got the SP3, partly because I liked the size better, but also because I like Sally Van Meter, by whom it was designed. (I used to see her with The Good Ole Persons band in San Francisco 20+ years ago).

I recently tried the Shubb GS (this steel). I like the hardwood and stainless steel design, but I have some reservations about it. The curved top is very comfortable for my slightly older hands and the sharp edges make for very clean, crisp pulloffs, but I find that the stainless steel part is too light. I don't get the strong attack and the notes don't ring as long as with the heavier bar. In the end, it is all about the sound. I'm considering trying to retrofit a curved top to the Sally Van Meter SP3.

Instead of a resonator guitar, I play on a standard dreadnought guitar with the nut and saddle raised. The lighter weight might work on a resonator, but the bottom line is I'm going back to Sally's bar, the SP3.

Note: Even though this review is on Suzanne Sheumaker's account, I'm Craig, her husband.
