"Good as a 2nd instrument for traveling", We are a two-player household and we purchased another model elsewhere, so we were looking for an inexpensive second instrument for our needs. We thought purchasing this type of instrument on line would be a gamble, but it turned out well for us.

The rigid case is adequate but less substantial than other available hard cases. The lock seems light-weight at best. The bow is adequate. The instrument has a nice finish, and sounds okay on the lower strings. The upper strings are tinny by comparison. You have to work with the instrument to bring tones out which may come with less effort on other more expensive instruments. In a setting where one solo player passes the melody to another, the difference is noticeable. Plan on switching out the strings with a better set.

Plan to be present when the instrument arrives, and inspect before signing. The shipper assigned to deliver the instrument simply dropped off the box outside our door and left without a signature. The wind blew the box over before we could get to it, and we found the sounding post had dislodged. We contacted Crystalcello and they gave instructions on what to do. We were able to get someone locally to reset the post at no cost, but Crystalcello was willing to reimburse us if we had incurred a cost.

Having played a bit on both hand-made and machined instruments, I recognize this model's limits. But it is a good, inexpensive choice for a second or starter instrument. More serious students, or those wishing to own only one instrument, may wish to look in person or on line at the more expensive offerings. The model we purchased fit our needs at a good price.
