What our customer's say!

"Great product", We haven't had this drive very long, however so far it has performed flawlessly. We love the all aluminum case - much more attractive and robust than those other external hard drives with plastic cases.

"Great Sleek Hard Drive", Fast access to your data on FireWire 800. I wish you could connect two computer to one hard drive. I would recommend this product.

"Good so far", Easy to set up (at least on a Mac). Quiet operation. Still working after one month. If it's still working after two years, I'd give it five stars.

"Good product, would recommend", I've used these drives for video production usage since 2003 and have loved every iteration of it. I like these in particular because they are one single drive instead of two drives in a RAID-0 arrangement. Yes it doesn't have as much throughput but it sure is way more reliable.

On that note this space is all for large video files and work files as I'm compressing and compiling DVD's. These drives hold up under hours and hours of reads and writes for years to come. In fact some drives I bought in 2005 just died but to clarify the housing died but the drives are still usable as internal drives. That said I would NOT use these drives or any firewire drive as an archival medium. Despite these being great drives there are other ways I would store sensitive material like spreadsheets and photographs. Any firewire drive is easy to knock over or unplug correctly and each time this happens you take a chance that it won't start up again.

One thing I would recommend if you use a mac is "Diskwarrior." it's a bit spendy but it has saved many a firewire drives from the clutches of re-formatting because it was having trouble mounting.

"Nice while it lasted - horrible customer service", This was SO easy to hook up with my iMac, just took literally a few minutes. And it worked perfectly; the noise when it was backing up wasn't bad at all. I really liked the blue light in front because, well, just because it looks cool. :)

However, I bought it only about six weeks ago, it was on sale as I recall, however it unfortunately died tonight. VERY loud clicking noises and my Mac froze up, which is beyond rare. Darn. All those backups lost since they'll have to refurbish it or replace it, which I'd of course prefer. Since they are closed the next two days, I don't know exactly how they will handle it.

Added: Once I finally got hold of customer service, after being on hold for an hour, the rep was not very responsive. The capper is that I have to pay for shipping (not a light unit) back at my cost, with stipulations as to how to send (3" bubble wrap - like I just have that sitting around). No refund unless they can't fix it. If I had it to do over again, I'd give it one star. If the returned unit (no ETA on when that might be) also fails, I WILL get a refund. You know when you call tech support and your 21st in line - AND there is no toll free number - it's time to prepare for the worst.

Of course, all my backups are gone either way. Please read their warranty VERY carefully before considering this unit.

"Glitch", While overall satisfied with the unit I have a glitch that is random in nature. Sometimes when I boot up the system gets hung up in the boot process and freezes. Solution is to unplug the unit and reboot wherein the computer fires up normally. I then replug the unit in and wait for it to happen randomly next time I turn on the system. I have found no reason or cause for this glitch.

"Waited 6 Months to Review - Incredible "Apple-Quality" Drive", The core of my home media center is an Intel Core 2 Duo Apple iMac with a 500GB drive. I've been a Windows junkie for 15 years and finally gave in to the urge to go exclusively Apple for home media management last Christmas, and have never looked back. Apple TV to iPhone to Airport Extreme ... we're engulfed within the silver Apple, but that's another review. So when it came time to select storage for media and back-up, I didn't have the luxury of buying one with an Apple logo (sans Time Capsule). After a month of research and talking to other home media geeks, I selected these 2008 vintage LaCie Quadra drives. I bought two 750GB drives, placed them side-by-side via fw800, and dedicated one to iTunes media and the other to Time Machine back-up.

They have been running 24x7 for 6 months under heavy use. The iTunes drive has been on almost constantly for the entire house - reading and writing media via several wireless MacBooks, iMacs and, of course, the Apple TV. And the Time Capsule drive has been backing everything up every hour, every day for the last six months. Both drives have done what they needed to do flawlessly with no user intervention. And as others have said, the set-up on the iMac took less than 5 minutes. So this geek is sold on LaCie. They perform extremely well and look very cool next to the iMac. OK, one annoyance, the blue lights on the front are always on and look like two spooky eyes in the dark. Other than that, don't hesitate to make the purchase.

"Lifesaver!", This was a life saver for me. I edit digital video & used all of my memory on my Macbook Pro in a matter of 3 months. I am sure I will need more then the TB that I got. I will defiantly buy another Lacie product.

"LaCie d2 Quadra 500 GB", Great drive. Plug it in and run the quick setup and you are off and running. As simple as that. I use it with my iMac, running backups using TimeMachine. I also configured it to have an Exchange partition and use that to swap files with Windows PCs.

"as good as I expected", I bought this drive after reading reviews of the Drobo product and all of it's issues. It has been installed for about two weeks and has been making automated backups of my two installed drives daily since then. I did notice (after clicking on the "restore" option) that the backup of my c:\ drive had a yellow light indicator, not the perfect green. I initiated a separate backup of the c:\ at that moment, got a green light and have had green lights on it ever since.

The manual is installed on the drive and downloads as a pdf... not idea but saves paper. The installation was not as idiot proof like I had hoped, but not terribly challenging.

The build is exceptional, the physical design stunning. I wish I had discovered LaCie earlier and used this model and it's rack configuration for all of my external drives.

I'm now sleeping like a baby knowing that my c:\ drive and my work in process drive are both backed up regularly.
